Madison County renews School Resource Officer agreement with Board of Education capped at $540,000

The Madison County Board of Commissioners approved a one-year renewal of the agreement among the Board of Education, the sheriff’s office, and the Board of Commissioners to provide school resource officers (SROs). The contract sets a cap of $540,000 and covers payment for up to nine SRO positions.
Under the agreement, the sheriff’s office will manage SRO payroll, equipment and vehicles; the sheriff’s office will calculate salaries and invoice the Board of Education through the county. County staff explained the arrangement exists because the county receives the funds and processes payments on behalf of the sheriff’s office.
Commissioners asked whether the contract had substantive changes from the prior year; staff said only the dollar figures were updated. A motion to approve the agreement was made and seconded; the board carried the motion that evening.
