WHEELING, W.Va. — At its June 3 meeting the Wheeling City Council approved several reappointments to municipal boards and issued two proclamations honoring local organizations and a community volunteer day.
Mayor Denny McGruder presented nominations to reappoint Dr. John Holloway to the Wheeling‑Ohio County Board of Health for a term expiring June 30, 2030. The council also nominated Kim McCluskey, Robert DeFrancis, Graham Burrick, Dr. David Jabbersack, Alicia Hardway and George Frasier to the Hall of Fame board for terms expiring June 30, 2031, and nominated Rabbi Joshua Leaf, Anthony Edmond and Dr. Emily Ward to the Human Rights Commission for terms expiring June 30, 2028. Council moved to approve the nominations and recorded the motion as approved.
The mayor read a proclamation recognizing Crittenton Services’ 130 years of service to women, children and families in West Virginia, noting the organization’s residential care services and its statewide reach. The council also read and adopted a proclamation declaring Friday, June 6, 2025, as Bridal and Wheeling Day, a community beautification and volunteer event focused this year on projects along the Wheeling Heritage Trail. The proclamation listed partner organizations and named local artists Vondell Bell, Amanda Carney and Mindy Yardborough as creators and leaders of the mural design for the event.
The proclamations were ceremonial and no formal policy changes or spending were attached. Council members and representatives from the honored organizations were invited forward for photographs following the presentations.
