Clay County awards Elmwood Township bridge-removal bid to lowest bidder

Clay County commissioners opened bids June 3 for a bridge-removal and cul-de-sac construction project in Elmwood Township (SAP 145-090-091-006) and approved awarding the contract to the apparent low bidder at $127,722.
Justin, county engineering staff, reported five bids for the township bridge removal. The engineer’s estimate was $207,415. Bids received were: M and M Contractors LLC — $262,500; Comstock Construction Incorporated — $233,400; Midwest Contracting LLC — $218,433.15; Gladden Construction Incorporated — $192,156.60; and Dentistry’s Incorporated — $127,722.00. Justin recommended awarding to the low bidder and noted prior positive experience with the vendor.
Commissioner Behr moved to approve the low bid of $127,722 contingent upon no errors in the bid documents; a second was recorded and the motion carried on a voice vote. Commissioners noted the county’s town-bridge funds cover the work and that removal (not a bridge replacement) is the scope; the project includes constructing a turnaround for plows and school buses.
Engineering staff said project funds will come from the town-bridge fund and that, because multiple bids were below estimate, staff will review whether remaining funds can be applied to other highway projects. The county will proceed with contract award subject to standard post-bid verifications.
