Public commenter thanks staff for student sustainability event; county to run IEPA annual reporting and schedules medicine collection

Kaye McKeen spoke during public comment at the June 3 meeting to thank county staff for engaging students in a sustainable design challenge and to describe upcoming community programs.
“First of all, I wanna thank staff for the presentations and for the wonderful time the students had here... it really was phenomenal,” McKeen said, recounting teacher and student appreciation for the event. She said she is working with county staff on intern educational outings and a storm drain medallion training for interns.
McKeen also announced a medicine, syringe and EpiPen collection event at the West Chicago Train Station on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. She said an April collection in Wheaton returned the most syringes and EpiPens—“I think 7 containers full, 11 containers altogether with the medicine”—and stressed public-safety and water-quality reasons for the collection. When a committee member asked whether prefilled auto-injectors would be accepted, she replied, “Yes, Yes. Absolutely.”
Separately during the staff report, Sarah told the committee that DuPage County has taken over annual reporting to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for all county municipalities and townships to reduce the individual reporting burden; staff said all municipalities and townships submitted their information to the county for inclusion in the IEPA filing.
No formal committee action was taken on these outreach items at the meeting; they were reported as community programming and administrative updates.
