DuPage officials celebrate staff NACED recognitions and preview senior resource fair amid federal budget worries

The DuPage County Human Services Committee read letters of commendation May 20 from the National Association for County Community and Economic Development (NACED) recognizing two county employees — Mary Keating and Julie Hamlin — for their volunteer work on community development and housing initiatives.
Committee members praised Keating and Hamlin for their contributions to community and economic development and for providing feedback to federal agencies including HUD. The letters, signed by the association president, thanked DuPage County for supporting the employees’ participation.
Chair Conroy and committee members invited Keating and Hamlin for photos and brief remarks. Keating later provided a departmental update.

Mary Keating told the committee the president’s detailed federal budget proposal released that week would, if enacted, eliminate funding for CSBG, CDBG and IHIP and substantially cut HOME and weatherization funding; the county would monitor House and Senate markups expected in July. Keating said her department had not yet ascertained Older Americans Act impacts.
Staff also announced a senior resource fair on Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the county auditorium to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. About 36 outside providers and four county program tables will attend; the fair will highlight the long‑term care ombudsman program and the elder abuse program.
Committee members thanked Keating and Hamlin for their service and encouraged staff to keep the board informed about federal developments that could affect county programs.
