Lake Forest Park advisory panel backs draft climate element, sends it to Commerce and planning commission review

Lake Forest ParkCPAP members reviewed a near-final draft of the cityclimate element and, by unanimous consent, agreed to advance the draft to the Washington State Department of Commerce and to planning commission review.

The committeemet to discuss the document's policies and background analysis and to flag items for revision before the public comment period. The consultants and city staff said they will submit the draft to Commerce (target date: June 13) and publish the draft for public comment beginning June 16 through mid-August using the Conveio platform.

Why it matters: forwarding the climate element starts the official public review and technical review process mandated by state planning grant requirements. The draft sets the city's policy direction on greenhouse gas reductions, resilience to heat, wildfire and flooding, and implementation items that will shape future code updates, development regulations and capital planning.

Consultants from Cascadia Consulting Group said the draft includes newly added resilience policies and a targeted greenhouse-gas policy on construction waste.
