The Panama City Community Redevelopment Agency on June 3 directed staff to prepare a letter of support to the Tourist Development Council (TDC) for Drews Hall, asking that staff coordinate the specific funding request with Destination Panama City (DPC) prior to submission.
"I feel that it would be right and proper for this board to, support that, in a letter to the TDC," Board member Bridal Granger said, arguing Drews Hall—inside a CRA area and identified as historically significant—could be restored as event space, a museum and an arts venue that draws visitors and benefits the neighborhood.
Board members seconded the approach but asked staff and DPC to define a specific financial ask so the TDC receives a clear request rather than general support. DPC staffer (miss Vigil) told the board she appreciated the support and asked that the letter be coordinated to include a specific funding amount or program request.
A motion, modified to require coordination with DPC on the specific ask, passed on a roll-call vote with Board member Hughes, Board member Lucas, Board member Bridal Granger and Chairman Pat Branch voting yes. Staff was directed to prepare the letter for the chairman’s signature and to work with DPC on the exact language and funding request before submittal.
No funding was committed by the CRA at the meeting; the action was limited to directing staff to prepare a coordinated letter of support to the TDC.
