Superintendent reports flat enrollment, proposed summer calendar changes and graduation plans

The superintendent provided the Nantucket School Committee on June 3 with an end-of-year update that included enrollment figures, a proposed meeting calendar for 2025–26, and the schedule for senior and promotion events.
The superintendent said districtwide enrollment increased by one student for the month of June (from 1,723 to 1,724). She reported no enrollment change at NES, one fewer student at NIS, one more at CPS and one more at the high school. New-student registration will close on Friday and students who enroll after that date will be entered in the next school year.
On meeting dates, the superintendent proposed keeping the traditional first and third Tuesday schedule for most months but suggested single meetings in November and February due to voting day and vacation week respectively, and shifting March meetings to the second and fourth Tuesdays to accommodate school vacations and presentations; she noted she would confirm broadcast availability with MCTV. The committee did not take a formal vote on the calendar during the meeting.
For end-of-year activities, the superintendent noted MCAS testing was nearly complete, seniors’ last day was Friday, June 6, and graduation rehearsals and ceremonies were scheduled in the following weeks. The district announced a senior breakfast on the last day of school and listed graduation-related events: baccalaureate on June 12 at the Congregational Church, graduation on Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m. with a senior parade afterward, and additional rehearsals the preceding days. The superintendent said the keynote speaker for graduation this year is Casey Neistat and provided dates and times for pre-K, kindergarten and grade 8 promotion ceremonies as well as a half-day dismissal at 12 p.m. on June 23.
The superintendent asked committee members planning to attend graduation to notify the district so seating could be reserved. The committee did not take formal action on the items presented.
