The Mobile Board of Adjustment on June 2 renewed a sign variance for Walmart at 685 Schillinger Road South, allowing building signage slightly larger than the 20‑square‑foot limit for informational signs.
John Rebury of Hedrick’s Sign (representing Walmart) said the application seeks reapproval of the same sign package the board approved in February of the prior year; that approval had expired. He said the requested wall signs are identical to the prior submission and needed renewal for the current rebranding and readability from the parking lot.
Staff confirmed the prior approval had lapsed and that this application duplicates the previously permitted signage. With no public opposition recorded, a board member moved to approve the variance subject to findings of fact. The motion carried.
The renewed variance permits Walmart to proceed with sign permits consistent with the board’s approval; building permits and any code checks will follow normal administrative review.
