Resident criticizes district Pride activities; board member urges focus on kindness and student support

A resident identified as speaking from Lansdale used the audience-of-citizens period at the June 3 work session to criticize district Pride Month programming and asked the board to justify the use of district resources for Pride-related events. The speaker said a 2025 study funded by the NIH showed harms from puberty blockers and other interventions and asserted that the study’s findings had been “buried”; the speaker offered to provide the portions released so far but did not provide a full citation or other supporting documentation during the public comment.

The board did not take formal action in response to the comment during the meeting. Later in the agenda, board member Mr. Casa publicly noted that the district has raised the Pride flag for several years, said the district’s engagements with students about Pride are “about kindness, compassion, and acceptance,” and urged the board and community to focus on supporting students rather than engaging in outside conspiracies or theories.

The meeting reminder read at the start explained that, in order to comply with Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Law, the names and municipalities of speakers will be recorded for the public comment period. The resident’s remarks were presented as assertions and were not corroborated or examined during the meeting; no staff presentation or administrative report responding to the study or to the budget questions was provided on the record at the session.
