Union County Public Schools’ finance committee voted in June 2025 to send a one-year produce contract with Foster Cabiness to the full school board after the district’s previous distributor withdrew from the state contract.
School finance staff provided the committee background on the change and said federal and state procurement procedures guided the selection of the replacement vendor. “The vendor pulled out of of the contract, and this was their option,” Miss McLean, finance staff, told the committee.
The memo included with the meeting packet asked the committee to approve Foster Cabiness as the next-lowest bidder and to forward the contract to the full board for final approval. Committee leadership made the motion to forward the SNS produce contract; after a second, members voted “Aye.” The committee did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript.
Committee members asked no substantive questions during the discussion and did not propose amendments to the contract language during the meeting. Staff noted the vendor had used a state distributor contract and that the district had followed federal procedures to identify and award the next available option. The committee’s action was procedural — forwarding the contract to the full board rather than executing the contract itself.
The finance committee meeting did not include contract dollar amounts or length beyond the one-year term referenced by staff; committee members asked no follow-up questions on pricing in the recorded discussion.
The item will appear on the full board agenda for final approval; staff did not provide a calendar date for the board vote during the committee meeting.
