High school renovation moves into construction: natatorium demo, permits pending and phased schedule through 2029

CHA consultant Colin Case updated the North Penn School District Facilities and Operations Committee on May 27 on construction activity and schedule for the high school renovation project.
Case said the project received preliminary final approval from the Planning Commission and the team will appear before the Board of Supervisors the following night. PECO’s engineer has confirmed electrical equipment specifications and procurement is underway; legal documents for conveyance of water lines to the North Penn Water and Sewer Authority have been executed. Case reported that the general contractor has meter pits approved and the project is awaiting delivery dates.
Work in phase 1 has begun: selective demolition in the natatorium started May 20, temporary fencing and site mobilization are in place, and contractors expect to remove the pool bulkhead and drain the pool later in the week. Case said phase 1 construction meetings are occurring biweekly and phase 2 documents have been advertised; a pre-bid meeting for phase 2 is scheduled for June 24 with bids due July 17 (or one week later if the deadline is extended).
The conservation district permit process is ongoing: Case said phase 1 permit approval (an ENS permit) is in hand, while the technical review for the remainder of the project is pending with an anticipated target of September 2025. County and township coordination continues on Sunnne ytown (Sunneytown) Road widening, traffic signal plans and a pedestrian study for Snyder Road. Additional utility surveying requested by the conservation district and township engineer has been completed and resubmitted.
Among site items, Case said AM radio tower demolition is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 23 (weather- and wind-dependent). Work on the transportation building site and design is nearing completion with anticipated contract award in late summer; the transportation building will be erected while the existing facility remains operational, after which the district will occupy the new building, abate and demolish the old transportation center and restore parking.
Case presented a phased schedule that places the APOD addition beginning in fall 2026 with APOD renovation in summer 2026–August 2027; BPOD phased work concluding in late 2027; D and E pod split work following; and CPOD beginning in January 2029 and continuing through December 2029. Case said abatement bids will follow the renovation schedule and some early abatement is required where additions intersect renovation areas.
Committee members asked about community updates during construction; staff said limited public notices have been issued for the natatorium work and that wider communications will be scheduled as the project advances and when larger disruptions (for example APOD addition work that will affect parking and drop-off) occur. Staff also reported that tile removed from the pool will be repurposed in a mural project in North Wales and that the pool holds 490,000 gallons, a figure reported to the sewer authority.
No board action was required for the informational update; staff will return with specific procurement actions and permit outcomes as those items progress.
