Columbia County Firefighters present just over $38,000 to local nonprofits for youth programs

Columbia County firefighters and county leaders presented more than $38,000 in funds to the Burn Foundation of America and Columbia County Community Connections at the June 3 Board of Commissioners meeting.
Chief Wallen thanked the community and firefighters for fundraising during the boot drive in May, noting the money supports burn survivors and local youth programs. "It's always my pleasure on behalf of the firefighters...to give you just a little over $38,000 for your organization," Chief Wallen said.
Representatives of Columbia County Community Connections described programs supported by the funds, including after‑school programming, summer camp and a "shop with a fireman" holiday program. One speaker noted the community's generosity even after recent local storms and thanked first responders for their service.
The board received the presentation and expressed appreciation to the firefighters and the nonprofit partners; no board action was required.
