Eagle Scout bench swing and prairie maintenance planned for Cary’s Rotary Park

An Eagle Scout project and a new maintenance contract for Rotary Park were presented to the Village Board on June 3.
Logan Meredith, a Boy Scout with Troop 168 and a Cary resident, described an Eagle Scout project to build a preassembled cedar bench swing to be installed near Rotary Park’s pavilion. Meredith said he will fundraise for the materials (budgeted at $1,130) and target construction and installation for July–August 2025. He described dimensions and capacities: a 4-foot-wide cedar seat with a 500-pound rated capacity for the bench and a 7-foot-tall by 10-foot-wide frame with a 1,500-pound bracket capacity. Village staff said the village would assist with permits and transport and install the preassembled bench.
Separately, Director Kaelin Noonan told the board the village contracted with Red Buffalo to maintain Rotary Park’s prairie and control invasive species. To support the contractor’s work the park may be closed on Mondays; staff said they will publicize any schedule changes if work progresses ahead of plan and the park can be opened.
Board members and staff thanked Meredith for the project and suggested adding a donor placard similar to other donated benches; Meredith said the troop is considering that. The park maintenance work is intended to preserve the natural prairie aesthetic described by staff and to address invasive plants discovered during seasonal inspections.
