Darren Moore, speaking for Boss Youth League, said the program recently took about 22 youth to Miami and won a national middle‑school championship. “This semester, we've impacted 35 kids through Best of Student Shooters business of success in sports, Boss Youth League, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit,” Moore said, and he described expanded programming including an all‑girls team that needs additional transportation.
The group requested help returning to their previous space at Chisholm or Sheridan Heights Community Center because “most of the kids we serve come from those areas” and asked the council for a one‑time $2,000 donation to purchase a van to support travel for games and practices. Councilors praised the program’s volunteerism and community service: “Anytime you call them about doing community service work, they are out there,” a councilmember said.
The presentation included a short video of program activities and an offer of tokens of appreciation for council members. No formal vote or appropriation was recorded during the work session; the group’s requests were received by councilors for further consideration.
