Speakers from the museum and the public praised the agreement and thanked council members for their work. Winford Hawkins, a local artist who said he has an MFA and a long history with Montgomery arts institutions, spoke in support and invited officials and residents to an upcoming solo show he said will open June 27 at the museum. “I have the opportunity to have a solo show at MMFA. And the show is coming up on June 27,” Hawkins said.
Council members thanked museum staff, board members and community supporters; the ordinance and agreement were approved by council vote during the meeting.
