Board renews Quayhanna mentoring and anti-bullying services; funding described as grant-supported

The Solanco School District Board on June 2 approved a renewal of services with Quayhanna to support mentoring, anti-bullying and school-climate work across buildings, with a primary focus on the high school.
District staff described Quayhanna’s role as mentoring students, meeting with individuals in challenging situations and working in middle and elementary schools as needs arise. Staff said the program has been "invaluable" to student conduct and climate work. When asked about funding, a staff presenter replied that Quayhanna’s work has been paid with grant money and that funding has shifted over the years.
Board members approved the agreement by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said Quayhanna can be deployed to different buildings as situations require.
