City selects local contractor quote to pour concrete floors for fire training building

Assistant Chief Burke said the city procured a fire training building through Sourcewell but discovered contract language and scope required the city to pour the concrete floors. To keep the project moving, staff solicited quotes and recommended Hybrid Builders LLC at $28,000; another quote from M5 was $37,343.
Burke explained the original supplier of the building was unclear on who would pour floors, and that the vendor solicited quotes from local firms. Because the work is under $50,000, staff said the city could follow informal quoting procedures rather than formal bidding. Burke recommended Hybrid Builders LLC to complete the concrete work; the board approved the $28,000 quote by voice vote.
City staff said funds are available in the project budget and that using the local contractor will keep the project on schedule. A board member noted that a formal change order could have incurred an 11% fee under the Sourcewell contract; selecting the local contractor avoided that additional cost, staff said.
