The Board approved staff’s request to solicit quotes to remove two underground single-wall fuel tanks (gasoline and diesel) at the wastewater facility.
Jerry Jackson of wastewater explained the tanks are 38 years old, fiberglass, single-wall and the piping does not meet current double-wall standards. He said the tanks have leak-detection monitoring and have never leaked, but staff want to remove them to meet current standards and to reduce inspection and regulatory exposure. In the near term the city will use WEX cards for fueling and a temporary diesel tank will be used to fuel a generator until a planned natural-gas generator replaces the need for stored diesel.
The board approved soliciting quotes for tank removal. Staff said soil testing and certification will be part of the removal process to confirm no contamination and to document compliance for regulators. The item was approved by voice vote with staff noting budget and procedural details will be addressed during procurement.
