Residents and selectmen discussed adding signage and clarifying parking rules at Harry Bond Park at the Board of Selectmen meeting June 2.
Mark Beauregard, who owns a store across from the park, urged the board to install signage to highlight the pond access and to prevent vehicles from blocking the path to the ramp. Beauregard suggested a sign reading “park access do not block,” noting “people park there and block the access routinely when it's crowded.”
Board members and staff debated whether to post “no parking” language or a “do not block” loading-style sign. One selectman cited the town’s traffic ordinance — section 3526 — and read that it prohibits parking “within 10 feet of any entrance to an alley, fire lane, or drive or drive in the business district of the town of region,” as the basis for enforceable signage.
Officials described the ramp as a dirt, carry-in/carry-out style access rather than a paved boat ramp and noted past concerns about the need to keep access clear for emergency vehicles and a possible dry hydrant. Town staff said the intent is to discourage parking that blocks the path rather than to build a formal no-parking zone, and they agreed to continue work on signage placement and enforcement and report back to the board in a few weeks.
No formal ordinance change was proposed at the meeting; the board’s action was a direction to staff to prepare recommended signage and enforcement steps.
