The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County declared parcels of real property surplus and approved their disposition under the Metropolitan Code of Laws, and council members questioned where sale proceeds would be deposited.
During discussion of resolution RS20251263, which declares surplus property and approves disposition under Section 2.24.025 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws, Council member Allen asked whether proceeds from the sale would be deposited in the Barnes Fund. Director Darby confirmed on the record that “the proceeds of these sales will go to the Barnes Fund.” The council approved RS20251263 by voice vote.
Council member Allen also pulled bill BL2025839, an ordinance approving the sale of approximately 0.03 acres of remnant property west of First Avenue North, east of Second Avenue North and north of Van Buren Street, and asked whether proceeds from that sale would go to the Barnes Fund. Department staff searching the legislation told the chamber they did not see an indication in the ordinance that proceeds would go to the Barnes Fund; the staff response was reported in the meeting transcript as, “I don’t see any indication in the legislation that the proceeds go to the Barnes Fund.” The bill was moved, seconded and approved.
Both items were considered during the same meeting that passed the consent agenda; the recorded consent vote for the consent agenda was 7–0–0. Council members did not adopt a separate amendment on the floor to direct proceeds from BL2025839 to the Barnes Fund during this meeting.
The council chair also reminded members of upcoming meetings: a joint Planning and Budget Committee meeting on June 10 at 5 p.m. in the chamber followed by a special council meeting at 6 p.m. to vote on the Capital Improvements Budget.
