LCSD #1 board approves design and maintenance contracts for South triad elementary and facility repairs

The board also authorized administration to proceed with a district-maintenance project list that the administration said is sized to fit approximately $10.9 million in major maintenance allocations plus a one-time state improvement amount of about $4.5 million. The projects include roofing, HVAC, flooring, exterior repairs, asbestos abatement where required, and security upgrades as designated by the state.
Funding and prioritization: District staff explained the state performs a four-year facilities assessment that ranks buildings by need; district technicians and supervisors help determine which tasks are most critical. The maintenance list presented to the board reflects that ranking with the highest-need items prioritized and other projects staged if remaining funds allow.
Process: For the South 5–6 project, trustees were told the design contract permits the district to move from planning to detailed design; the design money for this project has already been allocated, the presenters said. Separate state funding buckets apply to the other projects (ARP and major maintenance) and each ask follows its respective approval and appropriation path.
Board action: Motions to approve the consulting contract, the professional services for the South 5–6 school and the facility maintenance list all passed during the June 2 meeting with aye votes recorded in the public session.
What’s next: With design contracts approved, the district will engage design teams and begin design work. For maintenance projects, staff will solicit professional services and call for bids as needed to complete the highest-priority repairs within the available budget.
