Monticello council awards resurfacing contract for Independence, Main and William streets

The Monticello City Council on May 27, 2025, approved Resolution 2025-34 to award a contract to A and R for resurfacing on Independence, Main and William streets.

City staff presented the project as part of the FY2025 general fund budget. Jim Grabarza, a city staff member who presented the item, said the bid tabulations show three bidders and included unit prices; he said construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in June 2025 with project completion scheduled for August 2025. Grabarza told the council staff would know more about the contractor’s schedule “upon execution of the contract.”

During the discussion a council member pointed out a typographical error in the packet that appeared to list a Dunn company amount as “$8.37 $4.10.” Staff acknowledged the line was likely a typo and said it would be corrected before the contract was signed. The presentation stated that access to affected properties would be maintained “as reasonably as possible” during construction.

A motion to approve Resolution 2025-34 carried on a roll call vote in which each council member present voted yes: Mister Reed; Mister Woodham; Mister Carey; Miss Lively; Miss Yoon; Mister Burrows; and Mister Broderick. The council’s action authorized staff to execute the resurfacing contract and return with scheduling details after contract execution.

City staff will correct the typographical error noted in the contract documents before obtaining signatures and will provide the contractor’s detailed schedule once the contract is executed.
