College Place commission adopts truck-route code 10.18 to qualify for road grants

The Economic Development, Tourism, and Events Commission on June 2 approved a proposal to adopt College Place Code 10.18, formally designating official truck routes in the city.
Michael Rizzitello, speaking for staff, explained the purpose of the code: “With this item, it basically is just designating official truck routes and allows us to be able to get the grants for the roads and such.” Commissioners asked whether the designation affected county routes; Rizzitello answered that this is a city-only designation and does not create county requirements. Commissioners also asked about signage; Rizzitello said some signs will be posted where necessary.
A motion to approve Code 10.18 was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The commission’s action formalizes the truck-route designation at the city level and, according to staff, will allow College Place to pursue road-related grants that require a local truck-route ordinance or code.
