Saint Charles approves fireworks permits for July 3 and July 4 displays

Deputy Chief Jason Peterson told the committee the St. Charles Country Club applied for a July 3 display and the St. Charles Park District applied for a July 4 show at Langham Park. “In accordance with the city ordinance regarding fireworks and explosives, no public exhibition of fireworks or pyrotechnics shall be given unless a permit is secured from the mayor and city council 30 days prior to the display,” Deputy Chief Peterson said. He said the fire department had received the required documentation and that both proposed displays met applicable codes and safety requirements.
Councilmembers voted to approve both permits after brief questions. One councilmember noted community controversy about the Langham Park location and suggested that the location could be reevaluated next year, particularly with a new police chief incoming; that member said they supported approval this year but recommended future review of location and public feedback.
The motions to approve both permits passed by roll call with unanimous affirmative votes.
