St. Charles proclaims June 2025 LGBTQIA+ Pride Month; council and residents praise relaunch event

Mayor Clint Hall read a proclamation on June 2 declaring June 2025 LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the City of Saint Charles and said the city had raised a rainbow flag for the month.

The proclamation text read in part: "Now, therefore, I, Clint Hall, Mayor of St. Charles, in partnership and support with the Equity and Inclusion Commission of the City of St. Charles, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2025 a LGBTQIA plus Pride Month in the City Of St. Charles and call upon the residents of our community to celebrate the great diversity of St. Charles, work together to break down the walls of discrimination, intolerance and lack of understanding and to promote full equal rights for all Americans regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."

A resident who addressed the council during public comment thanked the mayor and council for voting to support the Pride event earlier that day and said organizers estimated more than 300 attendees. "We had people of all ages... It was a great event," the resident said, and thanked the police officer who was present to help prevent disruptions.

Michael Nelson, who identified himself as a member of the queer community, spoke during public comments and praised the Equity and Inclusion Commission and the council's support. "I just wanted to make sure to say thank you for the importance of this event," Nelson said, later adding that he looks forward to "what we can do to continue this tradition." The council did not adopt any ordinance related to Pride Month at the meeting; the action was a mayoral proclamation and community recognition.
