The Board of Public Works on June 2 approved a complete closure of Combs Road to allow waterline and storm-sewer work for Ridgetop Section 1, with the closure set for July 7 through July 21 and conditions set by the engineering department. "It'll be a complete closure," Cole said during the presentation.
The board's approval is contingent on five standard engineering conditions: required permits for both phases of the work, submission and approval of detour routes and signage by the engineering department, notification to public-safety agencies and school corporations, publication of the closure notification in the Daily Journal in advance, and a $500 per day fine for any closure that extends beyond July 21.
Engineering staff said the work is split between a northern portion (waterline) and a southern portion (storm sewer). The contractor said access to properties would be maintained during the closures and that traffic would be rerouted to neighboring arterial streets. The board approved the closure subject to the five conditions and standard notification procedures.
The board did not modify the engineering conditions at the meeting; staff said they will coordinate the detour plans and notifications with the affected agencies before the closures begin.
