Board authorizes sheriff to accept HIDTA award and approves Justice Assistance grant contract

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors authorized two grant actions for the sheriff’s office at its June 2 meeting.
The board approved authorization for Sheriff Quinn Reese to execute a 2025 HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) sub-award recipient agreement and related documents in the amount of $73,305. County discussion noted HIDTA funds are used for equipment, training, salary and overtime related to long-standing drug enforcement efforts.
The board also approved a fiscal year 2025–26 Iowa Justice Assistance grant contract in the amount of $33,915 and authorized the chair to execute that contract. County staff described the JAG award as a recurring grant the sheriff’s office has used historically.
Both items were approved during the meeting; the HIDTA agreement was approved by voice vote and the JAG contract was approved without a formal roll call, per the board’s discussion about procedure.
