Saint Albans thanks public works as paving finishes; city readies summer events

Councilman Rudd asked council to ‘‘please, Alex Holder and John Johnson with the staff of public works for getting the paving completed today.’’ Another council member noted the work was ‘‘quite an accomplishment’’ given recent poor weather.
Council members also thanked Public Works staff for staffing a recycling trailer at city events; one council member said the trailer ‘‘talk[ed] to a lot of people about recycling in the city’’ and called it ‘‘a positive thing for the city.’’
Separately, councilors discussed the new Saturday Night on Old Bay outdoor series, which a council speaker said had been in planning ‘‘for probably three years’’ and which featured live music starting at 6:30 p.m. with movies beginning at dusk. The speaker said the first weekend was Memorial Weekend (featuring Carpenter Ants and Mubi) and that recent screenings drew ‘‘a ton of people’’ and helped bring residents to Saint Albans businesses.
Council members encouraged promotion of upcoming dates (the speaker mentioned July and August dates) to increase attendance and downtown patronage.
