The council authorized an ordinance to continue the city's cooperative purchase of deicing rock salt through the SWAP purchasing program at a unit price of $71.56 per ton.
Service Director Kitko explained the ordinance extends the city's participation for a second year and that the city will bid using an estimated 300 tons per year; he noted the city’s recent average use over the past four to five years has been about 100 tons per year. "This ordinance is to continue with our second year for working with SWAP 4 G for the purchase of deicing salt at $71.56 per ton, and we use an estimated 300 tons per year," Kitko said.
Council took the recorded affirmative votes needed for introduction and action per the agenda. Staff said the estimate is conservative for bidding purposes and that actual usage historically has been lower.
