Tomas Tolentino elected chair as Dennis-Yarmouth school committee reorganizes; officers chosen by roll call

The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee held its annual reorganization at the June 2 meeting, electing Tomas Tolentino as chair and filling other officer positions by voice nominations followed by roll call votes.

Dr. Smith, the superintendent, opened nominations. Tomas Tolentino was nominated and accepted; roll call votes recorded support from all listed members and Tolentino took the gavel. The committee subsequently nominated and voted to approve Jenny for treasurer, Glenn Martin for secretary and Marilyn Bemis for vice chair. Each officer was reported as affirmatively supported in the roll call votes recorded in the meeting.

The superintendent explained the process at the start of the meeting: voice nominations, a discussion period, and roll call voting; nominees could accept or decline. Committee members present cast roll call “yes” votes for the slate of nominees; the transcript records affirmations from members identified as Mr. Glenn (sometimes transcribed as Glynn), Mr. Morris, Mr. New, Mr. Martin, Ms. Landers, Ms. Bemis and Mr. Tolentino.

Additional details: The superintendent noted this is the one meeting each year when he temporarily opens the meeting as superintendent and acts as chair until a new chair is elected.
