State proposes electronic-only quarterly wage reporting for employers with more than five workers

The Administrative Rules Subcommittee approved a Commerce Division of Workforce Services rule that requires employers with more than five employees per quarter to submit quarterly wage reports electronically.
Christian Rhodes Berry, director of the reemployment program for the Division of Workforce Services, told the committee the change is intended to reduce data-entry errors created when employers mail printed reports that staff must manually key. "Instead of doing that it makes more sense for them to submit that electronically, which again would reduce the error rate and also reduce our administrative burden," Berry said.
Committee members had no questions and recorded no public opposition. The subcommittee approved the rule "without objection," and staff said there were no additional steps raised during the meeting.
