Board approves asbestos abatement, Du Bois renovations and school‑improvement contracts

Staff reported that five bids were received for Phase 4 asbestos abatement at Springfield High School and that Abateco was the lowest bidder at $117,000. The board also approved health, life and safety renovations at Du Bois Elementary School; Evans Construction was the low bidder at $499,900.
The board approved an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Learning Partner Agreement for Adams School with The Thoughtful Classroom (Silver Strong & Associates) at a cost of $54,300 for the 2025–26 school year, to be paid with Title I School Improvement (1003) grant funds. The Thoughtful Classroom scope includes eight site leadership coaching visits, staff workshops, eight hours of online coaching support and access to a professional development suite.
A consulting agreement with Carnegie Learning was also approved for professional development tied to the district’s Clear Math curriculum. The total cost reported for Carnegie Learning services was $68,500, funded from School Improvement 1003 grant funds, with Fairview scheduled for 10 days of support, Fichins for four days and Hazel Dell for six days.
A motion to approve the consent items was moved and seconded and, by roll call, received six aye votes. The board recorded approval; no amendments to the listed contracts were reported during the consent vote.
