The Board of Regents’ Academic and Student Affairs Committee voted to forward annual program review recommendations from the University of Kansas, KU Medical Center and Kansas State University to the full board and asked staff to include a report on administrative efficiencies in the issue paper.
Dr. Monholland summarized the reviews, saying Kansas State reported 219 programs, KU 247 and KU Medical Center 51, and emphasized that the institutions’ internal review processes appeared thorough. The materials listed programs institutions recommended to phase out, merge or place on action plans.
During discussion, Regent Alicia Johnston requested a formal look at administrative efficiencies—particularly for low‑enrolled programs—and asked that findings be included in a report to KBOR in December 2025 alongside updates on programs on action plans. Provost Bickelmeyer confirmed he would prepare a report that considers potential mergers, reorganizations to create academic or administrative efficiencies, and research synergies.
The committee voted to move the institutions’ program recommendations to the full board for review and possible approval. Regents moved and seconded the motion and the committee approved it on a voice vote.
