The Board of Regents’ Technical Education Authority committee voted to forward a supplemental distribution totaling about $358,000 to the TEA so community and technical colleges can be reimbursed for last year’s Excel in CTE enrollments.
The supplemental funding addresses a shortfall in reimbursements for the Excel in CTE program (SB 155), a high-school-to-college technical course program, Vice President Frisbie said. The board staff had calculated a shortfall near $359,000 and the Legislature provided an additional $358,000.
Dr. Frisbie said the program is funded at the start of the fiscal year for the prior year’s enrollments and the supplemental will reimburse colleges for last year’s calculated costs. “We will need to act and distribute that funding to the colleges to reimburse them for last year's enrollments,” Frisbie said.
Dave Reist moved that the committee send the supplemental distribution recommendation to the TEA; Todd Zimmer seconded. Board members discussed whether the TEA should approve it on the consent agenda or consider it separately; members agreed to place the item on the TEA agenda for separate, brief consideration so institutions are not lost in the consent agenda. Chair Sneddon called for objections and, hearing none, said the motion passed.
The action forwards the request to the TEA; the TEA will take the formal approval action.
