Planning commission approves temporary mobile concrete batch plant for Moreland Road work

The New Berlin Planning Commission on June 2 approved a conditional use permit for Triweiler Construction and Supply Company, Inc. to operate a temporary mobile concrete batch plant at 6600–6666 South Crowbar Road to support the Waukesha County Moreland Road reconstruction project.
Planning staff described the location adjacent to existing ready‑mix operations and said a similar temporary plant had been approved in 2023 and renewed in 2024 for earlier legs of work. Staff said the plant is primarily for short‑run pours associated with Moreland Road and that the alternative would be locating a batch plant within the Moreland Road construction limits.
Hours were addressed during the hearing. Staff said, “There will be no Sundays or holidays,” and that the proposed hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Staff also said that if the applicant seeks extensions beyond Dec. 30, 2026, they must return to the Planning Commission for approval.
Residents questioned truck routing. Don Mathias asked, “What will be the route the trucks will be traveling?” Staff said the applicant provided a trucking route in the packet and that trucks would mainly use county highways and access the site via Crowbar to National or County Highway 164 depending on origin. Staff also noted there is no public access between the two adjacent gravel pits so short‑routing through adjacent private property is not available.
After questions, the Planning Commission voted to approve the conditional use permit with the conditions listed in the staff report. The motion passed unanimously.
