City partners with Ohio Edison to replace 33 steel poles with wood poles and LED lighting on Manchester Road

Council approved on consent an ordinance authorizing the director of public service to contract with Ohio Edison for installation of new wood utility poles and LED lighting along Manchester Road between Wilbeth and Beulah.
A staff presenter identified in the meeting as Mister Lottrell told the committee the city currently owns about 33 steel poles in that section and that the poles are corroded. He said Ohio Edison will replace the steel poles with wood poles and install new LED luminaires. "That means the ownership here forward will be the responsibility of Ohio Edison," Lottrell said, explaining the change transfers maintenance and replacement responsibility away from the city.
Lottrell said the new LED fixtures will provide brighter, whiter light compared with the existing high-pressure sodium (yellow) fixtures and will improve illumination toward the Summit Lake corridor. Council members asked about wood-pole lifespan; Lottrell said wood poles often last decades and that Edison performs periodic test holes to check pole integrity.
The ordinance was approved on the consent agenda. Council members representing the area, including Councilwoman Boyse, praised the project as a neighborhood improvement. No further legislative conditions were added in committee.
