The Charles City County Board of Supervisors authorized staff to continue planning to convert Tyler Ridge Court — a gravel subdivision road off Courthouse Road — into the state highway system, after VDOT provided an initial estimate and scope.
County staff said VDOT would surface treat the road, install driveway culverts, repair ditches and cross pipes, build up shoulders, construct a turnaround, add gravel and apply a surface treatment similar to tar‑and‑chip. VDOT provided a ballpark estimate of approximately $200,000 (±$200K) to meet minimum state system standards. Staff noted there is about $5,500,000 in the Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA) account that is unencumbered and restricted to road improvements.
The request before the board was for authorization to continue planning and community outreach rather than approval of funding. Supervisor Patterson moved that staff proceed with the study and community engagement; the motion carried unanimously. Staff said any funding request would return to the board for approval before construction. The county plans a community meeting with Tyler Ridge Court residents and will report back in roughly 60 days.
