Founder of Dreams Academy asks Akron leaders for support for new K-2 school and embedded counseling center

Scarborough said he founded Dreams Academy after years of mentoring through Dreams Academy (mentoring program) and Queen's Academy for girls, and that the new school opened in August at 790 Easter Avenue on the campus of Faith Place Church. "Our motto is simple, give me 8 hours," Scarborough said, describing the school's approach to combine academics with in-house counseling support called Hope House Behavioral Health to provide licensed therapists and trauma-informed services.
Scarborough said the school integrates family counseling and on-site mental-health supports because "academic success is only possible when emotional and mental wellness is addressed." He asked city leaders, faith communities and neighbors for financial help to pay staff and provide resources and offered to meet with council members and show the facility.
Council did not take a formal vote or make a commitment in the meeting. Scarborough provided a location and program description and sought partnership and funding; no specific funding request or mechanism was recorded on the council floor.
