Akron council approves $80,000 for Akron Grows program with Let's Grow Akron

Councilman Fusco, speaking in favor of the item, noted the group's long partnership with the city and described the work as focused on inner-city gardening, education and food access. "Let's Grow Akron has been partners with the city of Akron for many, many, many years ... Typically, we provide $75,000 or so to them annually. This year, it's up to $80,000," Fusco said during the committee report and asked for suspension of the rules to expedite the agreement.
Council voted to suspend the rules and adopt the ordinance; the committee's favorable report was accepted and the ordinance passed by voice vote, recorded as 11 to 0. The legislation authorizes contracts to carry out the Akron Grows program under the city's consolidated plan for 2025 and declares an emergency to allow immediate payment.
Council did not provide line-item funding sources during the meeting; the sponsor described this as an annual partner allocation for community gardening and education.
