Augusta County supervisors authorized award of a contract to replace the decayed storm sewer system behind the government center, staff said at the June 2 meeting.
County staff described recurring drainage and ice problems in the rear parking area and presented a set of plans funded with previously authorized ARPA money. The county received three bids; the low bidder was Moomaw Contracting at $312,000, S & K Excavating bid $398,000, and Partners Excavating bid $479,174. Staff recommended awarding to Moomaw Contracting with a 15% contingency for a total authorization of $358,800 and requested authority for the county administrator to sign the contract.
A motion to proceed and to authorize the county administrator to execute the contract was made and approved by the board. Supervisors noted the work is needed to address longstanding drainage issues around the courthouse and government center parking area and confirmed the project was designed to county standards.
The awarded contract will be managed by the county's facilities/public works staff, and the funding source is ARPA-authorized funds already allocated for capital work.
