The Board of Nursing at the Department of Public Health voted to approve a reinstatement consent order for Alexa M. Paola, RN, petition number 2023-1313, restoring her registered-nurse license under a four-year probation.
The consent order requires Paola to engage in regular therapy with the therapist submitting reports to the department, submit to random urine screens that must be negative for drugs and alcohol, require regular employer reports, refrain from issuing narcotics during the first year of probation, and be restricted from solo practice, home health care and travel nursing for the duration of probation. The order also requires attendance at at least eight group therapy meetings per month and ongoing medication management.
Attorney Anthony Niani, representing the department, said Paola was first licensed in 2014, voluntarily agreed not to renew or reinstate the license in February 2019 under a prior petition, and has now applied to reinstate her license. Niani also clarified that Paola has completed a refresher course and “has since passed the NCLEX.”
Board discussion produced no objections to the consent order. Board member Cindy moved to accept the terms of the consent order and Mary seconded. The board took a roll-call vote: Cindy (aye), Sal (aye), Mary (aye), Lisa (aye), Camille (aye), Diane (aye) and Gina Reiner (aye). The motion carried and the chair announced the consent order had passed.
The board recorded that two members (Alex and Elizabeth) had left the meeting before the vote and that a quorum was maintained. No additional penalty or modification of terms was discussed or added at the vote.
The department will implement the consent-order monitoring and reporting requirements identified in the order.
