The Worthington City Council on May 19 adopted Ordinance No. 17-2025 to update the city’s agreement with the United Methodist Church to provide public parking in the Old Worthington commercial district and to align a companion agreement with the Worthington Lodge.
City staff said the agreement with the church was recently renewed "for another decade" and that the companion agreement with the lodge needs an updated timeframe to match the church lease. "We recently ... renewed that lease agreement with the church for another decade. We also have a companion agreement between the city and the lodge ... so that those match in terms of the timeframe," Ms. Stewart said.
Council conducted a roll-call vote on the ordinance; members present voted in favor and the ordinance was declared passed.
Why it matters: The agreements preserve public-access parking in a centrally located lot in the Old Worthington commercial district. Staff framed the measure as a routine update to ensure consistency between the church lease and the lodge agreement.
Details: Staff invited questions from council and noted the change is intended to help people "park once and then walk around the district." No members of the public signed up to speak on the item during the meeting.
The ordinance was adopted and will govern public parking in the specified parcel per the updated lease and companion agreement.
