Dougherty County commissioners on May 19 approved a resolution to abandon the unpaved portion of Walker–Ducker Road located between Mud Creek and Floyd and Will Road in the unincorporated county. The vote passed with unanimous consent.
The resolution incorporated a modification requested at the prior work session: an approximately 740.5-foot segment measured from the intersection of Mud Creek Road to Walker–Ducker was excluded from the abandonment at the request of a property owner who uses that access. Public Works requested that the county retain easement access to maintain an existing 18-inch culvert pipe. County staff said the resolution is conditional on the adjacent property owners granting the public-works easements needed to access and maintain the culvert.
Commissioners clarified that easement language is intended to allow county maintenance even if the property owner installs a gate. County staff said they would work with homeowners to ensure lawful access is preserved for maintenance activities and noted the access points are at the Flowing Well intersection and a point nearer the Mud Creek intersection.
The resolution’s passage closes the specified unpaved roadway segment as a public right-of-way, subject to the recorded easements for the culvert’s maintenance. County staff will record the abandonment and any easements as required by county procedure.
