The Windcrest Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend an $18,000 budget for the parks and recreation line items for fiscal years 2025–26.
The recommendation followed a staff briefing that compared historic spending and asked the commission to consider the city manager's budgeting timelines. The city secretary reported city council guidance that proposed budgets be reduced by 10%. As the city secretary summarized, the council "are asking for a 10% decrease" on proposed budgets.
Commission members reviewed prior-year allocations and a line-item for year-round programming such as fitness-in-the-park. Staff proposed rounding the parks operating figures to $16,000 for one scenario but commission members favored recommending $18,000 for the 2025–26 cycle to account for activities and modest cost increases. "I would, if I may, if you wanted to go back down to what you had in 23–24, that'll bring you to $18,000," a member of staff advised during the discussion.
Motion to recommend the $18,000 parks and recreation budget was moved and seconded and then approved by voice vote. The motion will be forwarded to the city manager for inclusion in the proposed municipal budget package.
