The Macon‑Bibb County Commission approved two capital purchases for parks: a professional services agreement with Kompen Inc. for $150,687.36 to purchase and install playground equipment at Tattnall Square Park, funded from the CIP Capital Improvements Fund recreation equipment line item; and a purchase order to Southern Computer Warehouse for $245,366.27 for Mercado camera systems at Frankie E. Lewis and Cliffview Parks to be paid from the county's sponsored programs/public safety cameras budget.
Commissioners discussed prior constituent concerns about playground condition and said staff had requested funding under the capital improvement program earlier. A staff member said Cliffview funds had been largely exhausted for prior projects and that additional funds were required for camera installation; the cameras are part of an ongoing park safety initiative.
Why it matters: the purchases address public‑facing park infrastructure and safety systems and fulfill previously identified capital needs in county parks.
Both items were approved and will be sent to the consent agenda. Staff will execute purchase orders and schedule installations. Commission discussion noted that limited remaining Cliffview funds had been used for roadwork and lake dredging planning, and additional funds will be allocated from sponsored program budgets for the camera systems.
Ending: The contract and purchase order were approved; staff will manage procurement and installation and report back on timelines.
