Parks staff report renovations, court paving, dock and fountain fixes and first ash-borer-removal grant work

Parks staff gave a roundup of facility and maintenance work on Monday, reporting completed clubhouse renovations at Athletic Park, progress on pickleball courts, repairs to restrooms, work on splash pads and fountains, dock installs, and the first private-property emerald ash borer grant removals.
Jamie told the committee that Athletic Park’s clubhouse renovations are finished, including new ADA restrooms, showers and flooring, and that the Woodchucks baseball season has begun. She said the Alexander Airport pickleball courts on the southeast side have been paved, the fence is under construction and the surface must cure for about 30 days before lines and paint work are completed.
Jamie reported that Brockmire Park’s restroom leak—a break under the concrete—has been repaired and reopened; a separate minor splash-pad feature is isolated and is not currently operating because repair would require removing concrete. She said the Woodson kayak statue has four of five internal pipes operating and staff are locating the fifth break inside the statue. The 400-block fountain has an activator installed so it runs only when someone triggers it, reducing water use and cost.
Staff also noted docks and flower baskets are installed around the city. Jamie read an email from a resident on North Fourteenth Avenue praising the contractor who performed the first private-property removals under the city’s emerald ash borer grant: "They work diligently, efficiently, and safely... We are so thankful. Again, thank you for your part in this project," the email read.
