Oak Island skate park ramps delivered; phase 1 on track for early July soft opening

The City of Wausau Parks and Recreation Committee was told Monday that precast ramps for the Oak Island skate park have been delivered and set in place and that phase 1 work is expected to take about four weeks, with a possible soft opening around July 1.
Jamie, a Parks and Recreation staff member, showed photos of large crane lifts and three truckloads of precast ramps that arrived the morning of the meeting. "They set them in place... They set about 4 weeks for this, so we're hoping by July 1, phase 1, we'll be able to have, like, a soft opening," Jamie said.
Jamie said the eastern side of the park is largely new precast elements while the western side will be rebuilt from refurbished older ramps and new flat work performed by city crews. She described the contractor’s next steps as framing and pouring the poured-in-place elements, tying the precast sections together, and completing flat work for phase 1.
Alderman Rasmussen confirmed the plan to refurbish existing ramp pieces on the west and create new features on the east. There was no formal vote; the report was informational and staff will update the committee as phases are completed.
