Marshall County Commissioners voted June 2 to approve an additional mowing contract with contractor Amos Bontrager and authorized the highway superintendent to sign the agreement on behalf of the county.
During the Highway Department’s report, staff discussed a contractor offering to take over part‑time mowing work previously handled by county personnel. The county’s Highway staff said the contractor’s price “was a very fair price” and recommended using appropriated funds in the current loan/lease account to pay the contractor for the remainder of the year.
A motion to approve the agreement with Amos Bontrager was made and then amended to give the highway superintendent signing authority for the county. The amendment passed, and the full motion carried. Commissioners asked the highway department to provide a fully executed copy of the contract and proof of liability insurance; highway staff confirmed that liability insurance documentation would be provided.
Clarifying details provided during the highway report noted one capital payment (for a loader/mower) of $129,007.85 that will be completed this year and free up funds for other purchases. Staff also discussed operational benefits of new equipment demonstrations and the potential efficiency gains from contractor mowing in order to free county staff for other duties.
Ending: The commissioners approved the contract and authorized the highway superintendent to sign once required documentation (fully executed contract copy and liability insurance) is received.
