The Dolton Board of Trustees held a public hearing and unanimously adopted an appropriation ordinance formalizing the village's fiscal year 2024'2025 revenues and expenditures, noting the measure uses actuals because the year has already closed.
Dolton's Board of Trustees voted unanimously June 2 to adopt an appropriation ordinance for fiscal year 2024'2025 following a public hearing and roll call vote.
The hearing opened as trustees explained the ordinance codifies the village's actual revenues and spending for the year that ended April 30, rather than projecting figures for a year that has already closed. "This budget is the year that has already passed," Mayor House said during the hearing.
The trustees said the village used actuals because projecting a past year would not be appropriate; they also said staff are already preparing a preliminary budget for fiscal year 2026 and expect an additional public hearing before that budget is adopted.
Trustee Belcher moved to adopt the appropriation ordinance; Trustee Stan Brown seconded. Clerk Key called the roll: Trustees Tammy Brown, Stan Brown, Belcher, Steve and Holmes all voted aye. Clerk Key announced, "Motion passed."
The ordinance, as presented to the board, covers the village's general fund, Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) fund and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds and was made available in the clerk's office before the hearing, the mayor confirmed. Trustees said the FY26 process will include committee review and a line'by'line budget meeting before final adoption.
No public comments on the appropriation were offered during the hearing; trustees briefly invited residents to use the committee of the whole meetings and to contact board members in the two weeks before formal votes for additional input.
The board concluded the hearing and immediately reconvened into its regular meeting.
